As she do, do, do her thing, right on the scene...

So I have learned that I should not drink anything with caffeine in it after 3:00 in the afternoon. I bought a large half caf/decaf coffee last night and drank about half of it before 7:30 (I didn't finish the remainder). I couldn’t fall asleep until 2:30 in the morning! C’mon, that’s ridiculous, isn’t it?! So when my workday was done this afternoon I wasn’t really in the mood to exercise. BUT I DID ANYWAY! YAY ME!!! My walking partner and I headed over to the ‘Stratford Oval’ and had a great time (although I do need to talk with him about his desire to smoke both before and after the walk… counterproductive, no?). When I got home I prepared a nice meal with lots of veggies and some protein. Feeling great!
I have been making some email inquiries and phone calls… my goal is to have some a specific plan in place within the next couple of weeks. I am going to meet with a nutritionist, a fitness expert, and of course, my family doctor. If I’m going to make these changes, I want to make sure I’m doing them right!
Random thoughts I have had over the last couple of days:
I need new sneakers.
I think my current pair has been with me for 3-4 years. They’re sad and kinda gross too. I will be buying a new pair in the coming days.
Frozen ‘lean’ meals = not worth the trade-off.
The special ‘lean’ meals that a person can buy in the frozen food section are a waste of money. Sure, maybe they’re low in calories or in fat but the amount of sodium in them is UNBELIEVEABLE! Really, buying those instead of cooking your own food is like paying for your own heart attack!
I enjoy beer.
While lying awake in bed last night (due to my caffeine high), I realized that beer probably isn’t the best drink to have on my ‘healthy lifestyle’ list. I have decided that I should try to substitute beer with a different form of alcohol… mmm, maybe vodka in organic blueberry juice?
I love, love, love to dance.
The Jackson 5’s song ‘Dancing Machine’ was written about me (okay, that’s not true, I’m not that old!). Part of my exercise regime definitely, definitely has to include dancing. I know that The Gate (yes, the bar) has a ‘video dance party’ on Thursday nights… I might make that a part of my weekly routine. Anyone wanna join me?
SING IT WITH ME:
She's a dance, dance, dance, dance dancing machine
Watch her get down, watch her get down
As she do, do, do her thing, right on the scene

  1. Have you looked into zumba as a dance/exercise option? I think there was a class offered in Stratford (perhaps at the church community centre?) but I imagine it's also offered in Charlottetown.

My mom and my sister are great fans of the Stratford Oval and I'm putting on my own sneakers to (possibly) train for a 10km run with them in Ottawa this spring. I look forward to reading about your lifestyle changes and sharing fitness tips in the coming months. Go Team Grace!

  5. You could try the UFIT classes too. The atmosphere there is great, they're drop-in classes, and you can bring Ivan with you. He can read or play in the corner of the gym and join in whenever he feels like it!
I got a recipe book from the library with alcohol-free cocktails. They're scrumptious! That one I had on NYE: 2 lemons, 1 ripe mango, 1 cup of crushed ice, 4 strawberries (+2 for garnish), 2 cups of club soda, 1/2 cup of sugar (maybe you can substitute with Splenda?) Serves 4.
First blend the mango and pour at the bottom of each glass, then juice the lemons and blend all the other ingredients, add some slices strawberries for garnish.
